Introduction to Stevenage Homes

We are Stevenage Homes Ltd, generally known as just Stevenage Homes. We are a private company which is owned by Stevenage Borough Council.

We are responsible for the management and maintenance of the Council’s housing stock of over 8,000 properties. This involves carrying out the day-to-day management of the properties such as:

  • Managing the housing register
  • Letting empty properties
  • Repairs and maintenance
  • Rent and service charge collection
  • Enforcing tenancy conditions
  • Major improvements to the Housing Stock
  • The Decent Homes Programme
  • Planning major investment (in agreement with the Council)
  • Promoting tenant involvement.

We are governed by a Board of three Tenants, one Leaseholder, four Council Members and four Independents. The Tenant and the Leaseholder Members are elected by FOSTA (Federation Of Stevenage Tenants and Residents Associations) representatives, the Councillors are nominated by Stevenage Borough Council and the Independents are selected by other board members.

We employ about 280 members of staff. Most are based at our main office in Daneshill House in the town centre but about 60 are based at our Building Maintenance Depot in Cavendish Road, and some are field based staff such caretakers, supported housing officers and mobile wardens.
