How to make a financial claim against us
If you think that you have been hurt or your property has been damaged as a result of our negligence, you may have the right to make a claim against us. However, we recommend that you first contact your own insurers for their advice and to see what assistance they can give to you.
If you decide to pursue a claim directly against us you must write to:
The Insurance Officer
Stevenage Borough Council
Daneshill House
Danestrete
Stevenage
SG1 1HN
You letter must give details of the date and place of the accident, how it happened, the extent of the injury/damage and the amount you are claiming for. You must also explain why you think that we were negligent.
When we receive your letter, we will acknowledge it and investigate. When the investigation is complete we will contact you again. We may forward your claim to our insurers.
If you have any another queries regarding the procedure, the Insurance Officer can be contacted on 01438 242406 or by e-mail insurance@stevenage.gov.uk
Other staff are not authorised to discuss liability or to make any offer of settlement. Your claim must be referred to the Insurance Officer.
