What we will do about domestic violence
We are committed to promoting equality, valuing diversity, and providing a safe and secure environment for people to live in and visit. SHL will work with its partners to tackle the causes of all forms of domestic violence.
We recognise the effects of domestic violence on the victim’s quality of life and will make use of the available resources to eliminate it. We will deal with domestic violence as a priority and will take all reports seriously. We will work to ensure that residents are not subjected to domestic violence and to develop the confidence of all sections of the community we serve.
We take matters of domestic violence seriously and will not tolerate such behaviour from our residents, members of their households, or their visitors. Whenever evidence is available, we will not hesitate to take whatever steps are necessary to deal with the perpetrators of domestic violence.
We consider:
- That violence in relationships is an abuse of human rights wherever and whenever it occurs
- That every person has a right to be safe from fear and abuse in their own home
- That domestic violence is unacceptable and should not be tolerated
- That domestic violence impacts upon children, the whole family and community
- That domestic violence can and often does include criminal behaviour
- That domestic violence occurs in all communities and affects people from all backgrounds
- That challenging domestic violence is about pursuing equality and raising the status of those being abused
