What we will do in your flat block

Our caretakers work hard to make sure that you have a safe, clean environment to live in. Along with residents, they make sure that the shared areas of our block are kept clean and free from rubbish.

All of our caretakers are trained to the standard of the British Institute of Cleaning Science (BICSc), which means that the cleaning is of a high standard throughout our blocks of flats.

We provide the caretaking service from 8am to 4.30pm Monday to Thursdays and from 8am to 4pm on Fridays. We also employ two caretakers from 8am to 12 noon on Saturdays and Sundays to clean the foyer and lift car in each of our tower blocks, rotate the bins (putting empty bins to the front, where this applies) and respond to any health and safety issues that are reported to our emergency call-out service.

What they do

Our caretakers provide three different types of service.

A programmed service

Mobile caretakers provide this service from Monday to Friday in the blocks that have a lift, laundry room, large shared areas or bin chutes. From Monday to Friday they will:

  • Deal with any health and safety matters, including cleaning dirty areas
  • Remove and waste that has been dumped in the block of flats

At least three times a week they will:

  • Clean the lift car, floor and walls (if there is one)
  • Clear the laundry room floor, walls and equipment (if there is one)
  • Clean all shared staircases, landings, corridors, walkways and the ground-floor entrance
  • Check and clear rubbish chutes, if necessary
  • Remove any litter from shared areas

At least once a week they will:

  • Dust and wipe window ledges handrails and balustrades
  • Clear and clean chute rooms and the bin store
  • Sweep and remove litter from all footpaths and drying areas within the boundary
  • Remove graffiti and clean walls up to two metres high

A blitz service

We provide this service at least four times a year in our smaller blocks. Our caretakers will:

  • Deal with any health and safety matters
  • Remove waste that has been dumped
  • Clean out bin stores
  • Remove litter
  • Clean the shared areas

A reactive service

All blocks of flats, whether on the programmed or blitz service, also receive a reactive service. This is where a team respond to any health and safety issues customers report, such as removing any waste that has been dumped, cleaning up animal waste or dealing with any equipment used for taking drugs (such as needles and syringes).

We usually deal with these issues on the day they are reported but always within 24 hours.

Window cleaning in your flat block

We also employ a contractor to clean the windows in shared areas in the blocks of flats four times a year.
