Equality and Diversity Cross Cutting Group
The group is run by the Equality and Diversity Manager
The role of the group
The group steers and prioritises the work of Stevenage Homes in relation to equality and diversity including looking at performance as a community leader, employer and service provider.
The group offers advice and guidance to help ensure Stevenage Homes complies with legal requirements with regard to race, gender, disability, sexual orientation, religion/belief, age and transgender and takes action to:
- Eliminate discrimination and harassment
- Promote equality of opportunity
- Promote good relations and positive attitudes towards people
- Encourage participation in public life
- Take steps to meet disabled people's needs, even if this requires more favourable treatment
- Recommend, approve and assist with the development of policies, strategies, projects, plans and guidance to be adopted or recommended for adoption by Executive/Senior Management Team / Board / Stevenage Homes.
- Identify risks, needs and impacts on people and communities.
- Maintain a link with communities, employees and board members.
- Invite officers/managers to meetings to look closely at specific areas of work or gaps.

- Member Board Champion for Equality (Stevenage Homes Board Non-Executive Director)
- Executive Management Champion for Equality (member of Executive Management Team)
- Corporate Equality and Diversity Project Manager
- Trade Union (employees) equality representative
- Equality and Diversity Champions (From each Service or division)
- FOSTA members ( Representing tenants)
- Stevenage Borough Council
- Other community groups such as Stevenage World Forum, Age Concern or CVS.
