Your responsibilities for your garden
If your home has a garden, you are responsible for keeping it tidy and clear of any materials or junk that could put people at risk or catch fire. Some examples of these are:
- Gas cylinders
- Old washing machines
- Fridges
- Car parts
- Furniture
You should not let hedges and grass become overgrown and you should keep flowerbeds reasonably free of weeds.
Any trees in your garden are your responsibility and they must be properly treated and maintained. If you decide to remove a tree or hedge you must get written permission from us first, as it may be in a conservation area or protected by a tree preservation order.
If you have a serious problem, for example a tree that is dead or dangerous or a tree whose roots are affecting pipes or foundations, please contact the Council's Customer Service Centre on 01438 242242.
