Stevenage Homes have officially been crowned Winners of The Inspiring Learning Award by the Campaign for Learning and The Open University.
Representatives from the Campaign for Learning and The Open University delivered the honour to Stevenage Homes staff and learning partners in an awards ceremony at Daneshill House on Tuesday 30 November. As part of the award a cheque for £100 to go towards learning and development was handed to the organisation.
The Award aims to recognise organisations that have demonstrated how they have inspired learning through their Learning At Work Day activities. Stevenage Homes ran a ‘Learning Week’ in May 2010 with the aim to improve staff wellbeing through learning and development, by offering staff the opportunity to participate in a variety of learning activities. The week was a great success with positive feedback from all who took part. All activities were arranged by staff, making best use of in- house resources and links with local partners. Every member of staff received a learning pack and was invited to participate in bite sized learning sessions. The sessions were on a wide variety of subjects and delivered by both Stevenage Homes staff and external partners. There were also opportunities to participate in free taster classes at Stevenage Wellness Centre and with North Hertfordshire College.
John Slade, Assistant Director of The Open University in the East of England said ‘We feel that Stevenage Homes put a huge amount of energy into Learning At Work Day and we were pleased to be able to support their initiatives. There was a genuine enthusiasm among staff to find out more about how courses could contribute to their own careers and personal goals.’
Tricia Hartley, Chief Executive of the Campaign For Learning said ‘Each year we see an increase in the number of organisations participating in Learning At Work Day as a means of investing in their people. It’s the ideal platform for employees to consider the benefits of upskilling for their career, job satisfaction or simply the pleasure of learning something new. Together with The Open University we heartily congratulate Stevenage Homes for their highly successful Award entries this year.‘
