Children from St Giles Primary School are helping to introduce elderly residents of Norman Court to the internet.

The children are taking part in one to one sessions with residents, and helping them to learn basic computer skills such as emailing and surfing the web. Norman Court’s residents are the first of our sheltered housing schemes to receive a computer donated by Stevenage Community Trust.

Residents are already benefiting from using the computer by reducing the cost of their bills by managing them online. They’ve also been able to access online shopping facilities and have found out how useful the internet can be for keeping in touch with family and friends.

Gordon Loveday, a resident at Norman Court said “It has been very interesting learning how to use a computer and it’s amazing what you can do and learn from the internet.”

The Trust is an independent charity which seeks to enhance the life of people living in Stevenage and the surrounding villages.  By donating these computers, it will help improve resident’s quality of life by giving them greater access to online services.

Three more computers are to be donated by the Trust to residents at sheltered schemes across the town.
