Good Neighbour Day

To help mark European Neighbours Day we will be hosting three Neighbours Days across Stevenage to help raise awareness of local residents groups and promote better relationships in local communities.

European Neighbours Day, Tuesday 26 May,  is Europe wide campaign that helps encourage community cohesion and create more pleasant neighbourhoods.

Event details

Refreshments and children’s activities will be provided on each day, along with a ‘Know your neighbour’ activity that encourages people to introduce themselves to their neighbours and find out more about each other in the style of quick ‘speed dating’ meetings. Anyone is welcome to turn up.

Tuesday 26 May from 4pm to 5.30pm – Shephall Centre
Thursday 28 May from 5pm to 6.30pm – Pin Green Community Centre (Archer Road Community Centre)
Tuesday 2 June from 5.30pm to 6.30pm – Bedwell Community Centre

Good Neighbour Award

As part of the event we will also be launching our first ever Good Neighbour Award, to highlight the importance of neighbour relationships and encourage tenants to value the people in their communities. You will be invited to nominate one of our tenants for being ‘good neighbours’. The winning tenant’s prize will be a room or garden makeover to the value of £500, including materials and labour, the person who nominates the winning tenants will also receive £50 in vouchers for B&Q.

Maureen Herdman, Resident Involvement Manager says, “We’re always encouraging communities to get together and strengthen their relationships, and these events will really give people the chance to do that. Some of our tenants have lived next to each other for years but don’t always have the chance to say hello; hopefully we can help introduce some new friends. We recognise the importance of having good neighbours to turn to and there will be an opportunity for some of our residents groups to reach out to new members.”
