A family that has spent years helping their neighbours picked up a prize worth £500 at our annual customer conference.
Neighbours nominated Council tenants Mr and Mrs Metcalf and their three children for our first Good Neighbour Award. They were nominated because the whole family has made efforts to help and support neighbours, in particular helping out during a family emergency. They are also known for helping out with shopping, gardening, DIY and helping elderly and vulnerable neighbours.
The family will be rewarded with a room or garden makeover worth £500, which will include labour provided by our staff.
Presenting the prize Ted Jones, chair of Stevenage Homes’ board said, ‘It’s a privilege to meet a family that are so well regarded by their neighbours and who clearly take great pride in being part of their community. The Metcalf family are a wonderful example of the good neighbours that make Stevenage a brilliant place to live.’
The competition drew nominations from all over Stevenage and showed that the community spirit in Stevenage is very strong. Eleven other awards were given to customers who were nominated by neighbours who appreciate them.
Lorraine O’Brien, chief executive added. ‘Stevenage clearly has some excellent neighbours. Taking the time to look out for one-another is what makes a neighbourhood into a community, it costs nothing to help out someone close by, share a smile or keep an eye on an older person and helps to confirm what a lovely and supportive town it is.'
