Residents of six sheltered housing schemes raised over £1500 for Garden House Hospice during the summer to celebrate the charity’s 20th birthday.

Walpole, Grosvenor, Highfield, Shaftesbury, Hobbs and Truro Courts, sheltered housing schemes managed by Stevenage Homes, each held Tea at 3 events and invited friends and family to join them for home made cakes, refreshments and other treats. In total £1503.45 was raised for the Garden House Hospice’s 20th Birthday appeal.

Mrs Poole, who attended the event at Truro Court explained why she supported the event.

‘I think the Garden House Hospice is brilliant, they looked after my husband John, who had cancer.’

Debbie Rabot, director of housing and customer services for Stevenage Homes added.

‘I’m very proud of what our schemes have achieved. The events have been organised by residents, with the help of supported housing officers, and have been a wonderful opportunity for them to socialise and enjoy the communal rooms and gardens in each of the schemes. They have raised an amazing total for a cause that is very close to their hearts.’

Jo Wiffen, Fundraising Events Co-ordinator, for Garden House Hospice said.

‘We would like to thank the residents and staff of Stevenage Homes for helping us celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Garden House Hospice in such style.  We rely on the support of our local community to raise the £1million we must raise each year.  The fantastic amount raised through the afternoon tea parties hosted will help us to achieve this target.’
