How to apply for sheltered housing
Sheltered housing is especially designed with the needs of older people in mind. It is run and maintained by Stevenage Borough Council and is available to residents who feel that they require support to live independently in their own home.

Who can apply
Any person of pensionable age who feels they need some support may apply.
Homeless people who fit eligibility criteria (age and need) can apply for sheltered housing and will be assessed for suitability. Where they do not fit eligibility they will be considered for other Council housing in the normal way.
How to apply
You should apply by writing to:
Stevenage Borough Council
Daneshill House
Danestrete
Stevenage
Herts
SG1 1HN
If necessary, someone else like a friend or social worker may do this for you.
How your application will be considered
People who live in Stevenage and are not homeowners will normally be prioritised under Band A of our housing register (depending on their circumstances). Band A applicants will be considered first when a vacancy arises.
Once your completed application has been assessed and you have been included on the register, we will write to you and tell you your registration date, which band you are in and how many points you have. We will also tell you your unique Home4U number and you will be sent a batch of postal bidding coupons.
Other people, including those who live outside Stevenage or who own their own home, will be prioritised in Band B of the register. This means that they will only be considered for a vacancy if there is no demand from Band A. Their application will be awarded points in the same way as Band A applications.
All applicants for sheltered housing will be interviewed to discuss their suitability for sheltered housing and their particular needs. For example, we will not offer first floor flats without a lift to anyone who has even minor mobility problems. Band B applicants who live outside Stevenage will need to come to Stevenage for this interview to take place.
What will happen once you have been made an offer
Any offer will be confirmed in writing. Should you wish to view the scheme and meet the Supported Housing Officer, this can be easily arranged by phoning 01438 242666.
